LONG LIVE THE WHITE FAMILY!

I just watched this documentary last night and loved it. The Whites are HARDCORE - this family is fearless! True American Rebel family...they love to party! They know how to work the system too...well, except for one member of the fam who's doing major time. Go watch this and take a road trip thru the Appalachians, its a part of America most people have forgotten. I drove thru the scenic Appalachian mountain range 2 years ago and it was amazing. Also observed lots of Mountain Dew drinking...hahaha, appropriate for the region.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR RIP

LEGEND, HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY
AND AIDS ACTIVIST

MORE TSUNAMI DOGS

This one is really hard to watch. The reporter's are saying that they are going to look for some water and food for them. These guys were saved later and are recovering in a vets office.

Here's info on how to help. They are also looking for volunteer vets in Japan, similar to Medecins Sans Frontieres work but for for our furry friends. Please HELP! They have received $18000 so far in donations. Not even enough for pet food...but every dollar will make an impact.

HEART-Tokushima Prefecture

HARMONY KORINE x DIE ANTWOORD

Umshini Wam means, in the Zulu language "Bring me my machine gun" and is a song used at rallies in South Africa.  Harmony Korine working with Die Antwoord is such a no brainer combo - like DUH!! The giant joint & lighter, alien rims(is that what you call it?), and Yo- landi's song is brilliant.  I luv bitter sweet with a sense of humor and this short is exactly that.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT JAPAN - PLEASE GIVE!!

NYC 4TH GRADER RAISED $2000 FOR JAPAN

This cute 4th Grader had a fund raising booth outside Sunrise Mart (east village Jp grocery store) yesterday. She started making bookmarks last week and sold them in school for a dollar and raised $2000 already!! Her classmates helped her make a few more and now she is going to sell bookmarks until Japan gets better. She is awesome and her mom is amazing as well.

Every dollar counts and grass roots efforts are the key to reaching directly to people. PLEASE GIVE. GO VIST THEM AND GET YOUR CUSTOM BOOK MARK!!

My new bookmarks! She picked these out for me. AWESOME!!

DISASTER DONATION COMPARISONS + THE BIG MOON

The first week of donations are usually the most critical and can set the pace for giving. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET JAPAN - THIS DISASTER IS TO HUGE FOR ONE NATION TO RECOVER FROM ALONE.  Japan is a first world country with THIRD WORLD NEEDS right now - the impact of this disaster will be felt for years to come.  Please give what you can.

On a different note..............
Tonight  is "the perigee moon" , the biggest moon in about 20 years and rarer then the Blue Moon, which I think is actually not that rare. According to some peeps over at NASA(I read this on cnn-ha!) the moon will look even larger if seen thru trees...uh, thats what it said and the explanations was about the beams...maybe they smoke trees. I wish I was at my friend house in upstate NY to see this.
The next one is in 2029. ArooOOOooooL at the moon!

Bowie cover by Seu Jorge. He did all those great Bowie covers for Life Less Aquatic.
As you can see - I enjoy Wes Anderson films and David Bowie tunes. Life on MARS.

TOKYO TOWER + RANCID = CHEER UP!

Tokyo Tower got a bit bent after the major earthquake.

Here's Tokyo Tower before the quake - incidentally, my family in Tokyo had owned a Russian restaurant called VOLGA right by (or almost under) the Tokyo Tower for over 30 years. It was a pretty famous spot for live Russian music, VODKA, and food! Everyone retired, so VOLGA is no longer. I have so many crazy memories of being a kid and running around with my cousins, getting in trouble and just good times.

Nothing like punk rock to set things straight! Punk rock always makes things better...even the disaster combo pack. Rancid needs to go back to Tokyo to cheer everyone up!

SENDAI JAPAN

SENDAI aka MORI NO MIYAKO - City of Trees

Sendai , the capitol city of Miyagi prefecture,  was hit the hardest by the tsunammi + earthquake combo. It is one of the greenest cosmopolitan cities in Japan, known for the many trees that balance out the city scape. It is hard for me to to look at these images because it shows the magnitude of the current damage. My family is from Japan and the last 2 days have been very emotional. Our hearts are heavy with sadness for everyone that has been affected by this catastrophe.

This song is called "Kibou no Wadachi" loosely translates to "following the tracks of hope". This youtube video has alot of nice pics of kanagawa prefecture. This tragedy in Japan has made me miss my hometown, which is Yokohama. Holla to kanagawa ken min!!
Southern All Stars is one of my favorite japanese rock/pop bands from my childhood. They hail from Kanagawa prefecture - most of there music has a beach and ocean flavor, probably because of Shonan beach, a surfer hangout. I think this band writes music that really represents the spirit of Japan. They also hold the record of having the most hits to chart on Oricon - the JP equivalent of BilBoard. Gambare Japan!!

PORCELAIN RAFT

Porcelain Raft's music feels nostalgic and bitter sweet. I like to listen to his music when it rains - it makes the city feel quiet.

OCEAN SIZE..

Feeling the need to really get out of the city. Maybe I've been here too long, alas the city always calls me back......I just need to leave it from time to time.

PRADA + DOVA = "THE MADE IN..." PROJECT

Prada is collaborating with artisan's around world for the "Made In..." project. This denim is by DOVA from Japan. They are to denim like Maybach is to cars. Also, fashion houses usually never release selvedge denim. Awesome  for Prada to celebrate artisans and their craft. Quality versus quantity, sometimes we tend to sacrifice due to price points or immediacy. Even if it takes a bit longer and cost a bit more, it will bring you more satisfaction in the years to come - QUALITY. Pertains to everything in life...nuff said.

MEAT & CHEESE AT THE ARMORY

Rob Van Der Ende's meat made from wood scraps at the Ambach & Rice booth.

Giant Cheesy poof at Barnonian Francey

The Armory show ends tomorrow. You can definitely spend a whole day there. My roommate has to go take the show down tomorrow evening so he is very grumpy. Go check it out!

RAPE ME

NIRVANA RULES....90's grunge, so good.
Homer's SHAVE ME version below..haha

CHROMEOMEOMEO

Chromeo on Conan was niceee nice. I met Dave1 from Chromeo a couple years back, when Dust La Rock had his solo show at Christopher Henry Gallery. I had covered it for FLJ mag and Dave1 was DJ'ing the show with ATRAK. Dust is the amazing creative force behind the delicious album covers from Fool's Gold record.  My story appears in issue #6
You can check out current/back issues of FLJ mag here :  www.FLJtokyo.com

UNDERCOVER..

Stoked to see Undercover again...I think they had a hiatus of sorts. This is from fall 2011.
I like these super wearable looks from them. I bet these looks will be copied and will be available at your fast fashion department store...sans the quality and fit. I like the fit of the denim and luv the droopy sweater. They also did a few interesting jkts with ostrich feathers.

PASS THE DUTCHIE..

I woke up wanting to hear this song by Musical Youth. Which led me to this mugshot of David Bowie, from 1976 for felony marijuana possession. I know its so random...But he looks quite handsome. Also Theodora Richard's pot, vicodin and "graffiti" arrest. Graffiti, REALLY?! Bit of weed and a few Vicki's, maybe a ticket or warning, but arrest? What a waste of time.
NYC COPS, Please fight real crime.

This is Theodora Richard's graff piece she was arrested for. She tagged the side of a convent in SOHO. The nun's would like tax dollars to pay for the clean up, NO JOKE.

1-2-3-4-MUG SHOT!!! Allegedly, he was with Iggy Pop smoking the green in a motel room.

JEAN GENIE

Ziggy Stardust, Thin White Duke, Heroes, Pin UPs, just to name a few........
All my friends know that I am a huge David Bowie fan, especially during his 70's era. His costumes by Kansai Yamamoto was just so epic and brilliant. Their collaboration still  influence so many designers. LOVE BOWIE!

My Mom pointed this one out to me, after she watched the Oscars and saw Russsel Brand. Wowzers Mom! After lining them up, I kind of see what she means now.
